Spanish Alphabet
Learning the Spanish alphabet is the first step towards mastering the Spanish language. The Spanish alphabet is slightly different from the English alphabet, so it’s important to familiarize yourself with the letters and their pronunciation. Here is a step-by-step class for beginners on how to learn Spanish alphabets:
Understand the Basics
The Spanish alphabet consists of 27 letters.
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, Ñ, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z.
It includes the 26 letters found in the English alphabet, with the addition of the letter “ñ” (pronounced “enye”).
The Letter “w” and “k”
Both the letters “w” and “k” are not native to the Spanish language and are only used in words of foreign origin.
The Letters “ch” and “ll”
The letters “ch” and “ll” used to be considered distinct letters of the Spanish alphabet, but they are no longer treated as separate letters. This change was made in 2010 by the Royal Spanish Academy (Real Academia Española) and the Spanish Language Academy Association (Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española), who simplified the alphabet to include only 27 letters.
